Have you ever wanted to learn to sew a blouse or create a fun decorator item? Perhaps you are looking for just the right fabric to make a special dress or want a handmade felt hat.

In June, Brigitte de Valois brought this opportunity to Downtown Albany when she opened Brigitte’s Place, a fabric store and sewing classroom.

“We specialize in fabrics for the garment sewing community, says Brigitte. “We also carry trims, books, patterns, sewing notions, and fun gift items.”

Every First Friday, Brigitte’s Place holds a free “Sewcial” from 5-7 pm. You are invited to bring a sewing project to finish, get help with fitting a garment, meet like-minded sewists and chat about sewing, or something else.

Brigitte offers a variety of beginner, skill builder and garment sewing classes for adults and children each month. The monthly schedules are on her website. www.brigittesplace.com.

Brigitte’s Place is holding three special Christmas classes in early December open to ages 13 to adult.

There are two Felt Ornament classes where students will earn how to make a Christmas tree or pine cone from felt then add buttons, beads and ribbons to personalize their ornament. At the Christmas stocking class, attendees will learn how to stitch and decorate their own keepsake stocking.

“The Christmas stocking can be as fancy or as simple as they would like it to be,” added Brigitte.

Brigitte’s Place is located at 325 1st Ave W. Their hours are Tues-Fri: 10:30 am -5:30 pm, Saturday: 10:30 am – 5:00 pm, and 1st Friday: 10:30 am – 7 pm.

They can be reached at (541) 979-3121 or visit them on social media.
