On January 13, our dear friend and colleague Debi Wahl attended a ribbon-cutting, answered a few phone calls, issued a parking permit then suffered a fatal heart attack and departed from our lives forever.
Debi had worked at the Albany Downtown Association for over 22 years. Her dedication and contributions to the Downtown are unparalleled. You may remember Debi as the one who greeted you at the Movies at Monteith booth or helped you when you stopped into the office.
Outside of work you might have seen Debi shopping Downtown and enjoying her lunch outside on a sunny spring day.
Many shared Wednesday evenings with Debi at The Quilt Loft. Quilting was her passion. Debi enjoyed helping others learn to quilt and taught classes. She attended quilting retreats and entered quilting competitions. You may have seen her quilts on display at the ADA office. We are honored that Debi’s family will continue to share Debi’s quilts in our lobby.
Family and friends gathered to remember Debi’s life on February 5 at Fisher Funeral Home in Downtown Albany. The socially-distanced space was filled with dozens of Debi’s beautiful quilts, photos and flowers.
There are so many lives Debi touched in her time downtown and so many memories for friends to share. We appreciate the many friends, customers and neighbors who have stopped in the ADA office, called and sent cards of support to our little team. Debi is so missed.
